This kit is intended to get a married couple with no kids from El Paso, Texas to her parent’s home on the outskirts of Albuquerque, New Mexico 265 miles away. That distance is way too far to walk so they would have to cover as much as possible in a car before dismounting. Luckily their route passes by a pair of lakes, goes through two wildlife refuges, and follows the Rio Grande River the whole way, so water isn’t a major concern. But they need to keep moving because this route has the potential for banditos, which means not stopping to catch and cook fish unless absolutely necessary. Same for fire building. If they’re forced to dismount the car, it’s likely they’ll need to stay hidden which means no fire unless absolutely necessary. Being a desert, there’s not much to burn anyway.
These kits are complementary, meaning the male and female versions carry separate items, but they’re also built to be stand-alone kits in case they get separated. All food and water items have a 4-5 year shelf life.
